Netherland Dwarf Rabbits

First off, I'll be stating the obvious facts of what a purebred Netherland Dwarf Rabbit looks like because a lot of sellers are BSing and selling FAKE Netherland Dwarves.

Now, not legit FAKE. What FAKE means in this context is that the genes for a DWARF are weak or not present. So yes, they are purebred, just doesn't have the genes to make it a REAL pedigree one.

The ears must be two inches (maybe less), straight and not crooked. Their face must me round and compact. Not long like a meat rabbit. Their body must be compact as well and nearly resemble a round circle.

Now that that is all cleared up. Here is how I raise my Netherland Dwarf Rabbits.

For the first few days, I didn't have a cage (the shipping was taking FOREVER). I had to use a large filing bucket/case. That plastic kind. I filled it up with bedding (the paper one not woodchip or newspaper because it causes respiratory problems). I added alfalfa hay to a corner. Baby rabbits must have alfalfa and are slowly weaned off of that later on. I had two toys in there and placed the two rabbits inside.

I made the mistake of not covering the bin because they were so shy that they huddled together. Curiosity got the best of them and they came out while I was sleeping. Luckily, I am a light sleeper so I felt one on top of me and quickly placed them inside and the cycle continued.

I advise not to do what I did. Rabbits should be kept in their cage for 24hours before letting the door open for them to roam your room or yard. Always keep a watch on them! Have water for them 24/7.

After I saw that they ate alfalfa hay, I added pellets and they seemed to pick it here and there. Now they thought my room was their playground because they kept jumping out and running about! Cute, but be careful of electrical lines. They will gnaw on it.

Once I obtained the cage (after a week!), I placed them inside with the same set up. They loved it! Gave them a small hiding hut and they enjoyed taking turns going inside.

As they grew, I became extremely fond of them and so got a male. Same type. He was amazing! I bred them and kept the babies. Giving the older ones to a lovely old couple who made an outside rabbit playground for them!

The female baby rabbit grew up to bite me. I disliked her and I assumed it was her hormones. I gave her up to the humane society since I have a little sister who is quite reckless. One male, I sold as I couldn't raise two males. And another I sold because he was extremely.... uh... horny... Yea lol. So he went to a family who bred and sold rabbits.

All in all, I'd say female rabbits tend to be narrow-minded and a little meaner while the males are shy but also kinder.

Keep in mind, all rabbits have different personalities. Netherland Dwarf rabbits tend to be the meaner, harder to tame species unless you give them EXTRA time.

The horny boy lol

My favorite babies!

Edit:
I commented on T&J Guinea Pig and Rabbit Sanctuary that the ones they had been posting are not true netherland dwarf rabbits since they had big ears, not compact face and weighed more than 2 Ibs. I believe they have deleted my comment and are selling them as dwarf sized. They are not true dwarves because they lack the dwarf gene. Purebred as they may be, they are not show quality and will grow to be more than 2Ibs.

I would have supported their business but seeing as they deleted my message and are falsely advertising them as being a dwarf size, lying to customers. I DO NOT support them as reputable breeders/ sellers.

Best of Luck for those who purchased from them!
